01 September 2025
Dear friends and supporters,
September has been a month of momentum and reflection at Turning Lives Around. We’ve been preparing for our AGM in November at HEART Headingley, where we’ll celebrate achievements and share our vision for the future.
Recruitment for a new Finance Director and Trustees is progressing well, with thanks to those helping us reach wider audiences.
Our Housing First partnership with Basis Yorkshire is being spotlighted ahead of World Homelessness Day on 10 October. It’s a powerful example of collaboration making a real difference.
We also contributed to the Homelessness Prevention Forum, where themes like data governance and community tensions were front and centre. The need for safe, provider-only spaces to share openly was strongly felt.

A huge thanks to First Intuition who battled rain and wind to complete their 3 Peaks Challenge and beat their fundraising target – thank you to all of the team who took part for TLA!
We’ve continued work on our Business-Critical dashboard to improve transparency and decision-making, and I’ve had the pleasure of meeting with Unity Housing Association and Flower Fund Homes to explore future partnerships.
Nationally, the homelessness crisis deepens. Shelter reports a 25% rise in council spending on temporary accommodation, now at £2.8 billion, and a record number of children living in insecure housing. The Local Government Association is calling for urgent reform and joined-up government action.
With World Homeless Day coming up on 10th October, Department at Leeds Dock are kindly hosting us and we will be having an information stand there – so please come and say hello and learn about what we are doing to combat homelessness locally and how you can help!

At TLA, we remain committed to innovation and impact. Whether through property acquisition, service expansion, or sector leadership, we’re working to prevent homelessness and support people to rebuild their lives. Thank you for standing with us.
Warm regards,
Steve
