Sustain: Successful move on
SANDRA came to Sustain when the privately rented home she had lived in long term was put up for sale. She had financial worries due to debt and being asked to leave the home she shared with her dogs and cats had rocked her mental health.
With Sustain’s support Sandra was able to increase her banding with Wakefield District Housing (WDH). Her support worker also identified additional benefit she was entitled to claim and after corresponding with the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) and a long wait, she received a significant back payment due to an error made by the DWP regarding her circumstances.
This payment was a tremendous boost, enabling her to clear her debts, put some aside for the future and lifting the financial pressure she’d been under.
Sandra found an alternative suitable property for her and her pets. Sustain helped her to organise the move and settle into her new home, managing the utility bills and offering other support along the way.
No longer in need of Sustain’s support, Sandra’s mental health is the best it has ever been. She loves the area she is living in now, is financially secure and confident in bidding for a WDH bungalow that she says will be her ‘forever home’.
