TLA CEO shortlisted in Leadership Awards

TLA CEO shortlisted in Leadership Awards

TURNING Lives Around CEO, Janet Spencer has been short listed for the inaugural Northern Leadership Awards in the Third Sector category.

This award recognises that leaders are being challenged to achieve more with fewer resources and yet are being put under greater scrutiny.

It means that leaders, like Janet must be more creative and pioneering and challenge their teams to give more of themselves for those most at risk in society.

In her more than 24 years at Turning Lives Around, Janet has led the team to innovate to prevent homelessness through initiatives such as Carr Beck, an Intensive Supported Environment for women with alcohol dependency, Housing First, working with homeless women who sex work and installing kennels in one of our projects to accommodate entrenched rough sleepers who have a dog.

We have always led, and Janet has driven us to achieve more in often difficult times.

Judges have said that they were looking for leaders with a vision, a clear sense of strategy and how that will deliver in the future and leaders who had the ability to take their team with them.  The judges were also looking for leaders who could demonstrate they were willing to be brave.

We’re proud she has been shortlisted, that recognition has helped raise our profile and make more people aware of the depth of our work and the contribution of our staff teams.  It has given us all a sense of achievement.

Already the judges said that it had been a tough category to judge because of the high standard of leadership.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony in Leeds in November.
