International Women's Day
International Women’s Day 2019 celebrates how far women have come, whilst highlighting how much more can be done to create a balanced society and workplace.
To honour those women from history, science, popular culture and politics, whose contributions have paved the way for today’s women, Francis House will be hanging up bunting decorated with the names and stories of women who have inspired us at Turning Lives Around.
Between Fridays March 8 and 15 TLA staff, regardless of gender or orientation, can create their own flag, or email the details of their inspirational women for clients and staff to make the flags.
The bunting c reated will be hung in the client lounge to remind everyone of the achievements of different women.
This year’s IWD theme #BalanceForBetter is about inspiring a gender balanced world, a balanced society and workplace that reflects all members of society.
It is accepted knowledge that a balanced workplace is more productive, happier and more profitable. Staff of both genders take less sick leave and give extra time to ensure the company succeeds.
ONS statistics show that the employment rate for women is lower than that for men. Which given that more girls achieve 5 GCSE grades A-C (62.5 girls/ 53.9 boys) and one in three women have a science or health related degree compared to just one in 11 men, shows that gender equality still has some way to go.
Kinseys, the highly acclaimed business consultancy has consistently provided evidence of the value to business of a balanced workplace.
At TLA, our workforce gender split is 70% women and 30% men, but this is nothing unusual in the ‘Third’ or ‘Caring’ Sector.
As we look to recruit more board members we would welcome applications from more women. If you are interested contact: JSpencer@turninglivesaround.co.uk
