Marking World Homeless Day
SLEEPING OUT FOR WORLD HOMELESSNESS DAY
PREVENTING homelessness is key to our ethos of helping people turn their lives around.
Although working with people who are at risk of becoming homeless each day the tams across TLA are uniting on World Homeless Day on Wednesday (October 10) to raise awareness of how it can impact on those most affected with a series of events.
For some they are finding out first hand how tough life on the streets can be by taking part in a Sleep Out. With only sleeping bags and soup to keep them warm as autumn really gets to grips they will sleep at our venues including St Catherine’s at our Sustain HQ in Wakefield, and also a combined effort of staff from Francis House and Oakdale sleeping out in the grounds of the nearby convent at Francis House.
Less cold, but nonetheless still demonstrating how those who are homeless rely on others is a Soup Kitchen at our Hunslet HQ from 11.00am.
Students working on Our Future Homes project are cooking lunch for clients at our Seacole setting while Francis House is hosting a coffee morning during the day.
Grace Lodge and Oakdale mark the day with a film and clients buffet.
