Flowerpots Blooms with Ofsted

We always knew that we provided first class child care at Flowerpots Day Nursery, but now it’s official thanks to our OFSTED GOOD accreditation.

At its first OFSTED inspection the Beeston nursery was rated as GOOD by the government inspector.

Caring for up to 40 children at any one time, we have worked particularly hard to ensure that Flowerpots is fully inclusive, welcoming children from families who live in the area and those whose parents work in central Leeds or at nearby businesses.

We welcome and accept funded children who are eligible for 15 hours funded nursery care from the age of two and all children aged three to five years who receive 15 hours free childcare on a term time only basis. We also offer full time year round private places to children of working parents and to those children whose working parents can claim 30 hours funded childcare a week and wish to pay for additional hours on top of this.

Many children don’t use English as their first language, so the team have received specialised ESOL training so they can communicate better with those children and their parents and help them integrate into the nursery and local community.

Flowerpots is based in what was previously a purpose built fully adapted ground level community support service for older people that has access to a mature garden and extensive grounds from all the play rooms and provides care and pre-school education for two - five year olds. The inspectors were particularly impressed with our inclusive policy and our outreach work in the local community that sees children spreading light and happiness at a neighbouring older persons care home.

The inspectors said in their report: “Staff create a welcoming, nurturing environment and children successfully learn to be independent. Children make expected levels of progress and develop the skills they need in preparation for school.”

Janet Spencer is CEO of TLA. She said of the accreditation: “Flowerpots took the organisation out of its comfort zone but it seemed an obvious use of the building in its location.

“Since it first opened its doors the team has worked very hard to offer a safe and secure environment that allows each child to express themselves and achieve their potential before they head to school. Everyone at TLA is extremely proud of their achievement.”
