Beacon Appeal for Christmas Goodie Bags
CHRISTMAS can be particularly difficult for the homeless. To spread some seasonal cheer the team at a Leeds organisation is appealing for goodie bags to give to clients for Christmas.
Beacon is a consortium of three Leeds charities, Turning Lives Around, Touchstone and Foundation who support homeless people with complex needs in Intensive Support Environments (Hostels) and dispersed accommodation around Leeds.
With clients referred from a range of statutory services such as housing, health or probation services as well as the voluntary sector Beacon provides access to healthcare, training and support to find their own homes.
The Beacon team will be working over the Christmas period to ensure clients remain safe but want to ensure each person has something to open and is asking businesses and individuals to donate goodie bags as gifts.
“This small but important gesture can make all the difference to people who are on their own and in temporary accommodation,” said James Allen, Beacon Service Co-coordinator. “Many businesses have already recognised the need to make a real contribution to giving something back at Christmas and are looking at alternatives to cards or gifts. Donating goodie bags to Beacon would make a tangible difference to local people as part of any company Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project,” he added.
Beacon have suggested each bag contain something sweet, something savoury, something warm, some toiletries and an anonymous Christmas card.
Donations can be left at Merrion House, Leeds or TLA headquarters, 4 Ashbrooke Business Park. Parkside Lane, LS11 5SF, or contact 0113 276 0616 to arrange collection.
